Pitching a client with clips: a simple 3-email sequence

A good clip shows what you can do in under a minute. Here’s how to put your best clips in front of the people you want as clients.

Telling a prospect you’re good on camera, or great at what you teach, only goes so far. A 40-second clip shows them. This is a simple way to use SecondCut to turn your best clips into a pitch.

1. Start with your strongest long video

Pick a video where you’re at your best: a webinar, a talk, a podcast interview. Make clips from it and keep the three or four that best show the problem you solve. Use your own work, or a client’s who has agreed to be featured.

2. Build a page that does the showing

In SecondCut, open Landing page and set:

  • a headline that says who you help and how,
  • a short subheadline,
  • your logo and an accent colour,
  • a call to action with its link (a booking page works well),
  • a layout: Grid, Carousel or Story.

Pick your clips from the Library, check the live preview, and publish. Your page gets a public link you can share anywhere.

3. Find the right people

Under Contacts, use Find new to search by job title, seniority, industry, company size and location, and save the results to a list. If you already have a list of people you know, import it as a CSV instead.

4. Write three short emails

Keep every email short, personal and easy to answer. SecondCut lets you insert variables such as the contact’s first name, and add links to a clip or to your landing page right inside the email.

Email 1 (day 0)

Subject: A quick idea for {company}

Hi {first name},

I work with teams like yours on [the problem you solve]. Here’s a 40-second clip of how I approach it: [clip link]

Would something like this be useful for {company}?

Email 2 (3 days later)

Hi {first name}, one more you might like. It’s on [a second, specific topic]: [clip link]

If now isn’t the right time, no problem at all.

Email 3 (4 days later)

Hi {first name}, last note from me. Everything is in one place here: [landing page link]

If it’s ever relevant, just reply to this email.

Set the wait between steps in days. A reply stops the sequence for that contact, so nobody gets a follow-up after they’ve answered.

5. Send from your own inbox

Connect your own Gmail, or any inbox that supports SMTP, then set a schedule: your timezone, the days to send and a sending window. Review the campaign, then launch it.

On the campaign’s overview you’ll see how many contacts have been reached, who replied and what bounced. Replies arrive in your own inbox, so you can answer them like any other email.

Keep it respectful

Cold email works best when it’s welcome:

  • Only write to people with a genuine reason to hear from you.
  • Say who you are, and give them an easy way to say “no thanks” in every email.
  • Follow the email rules where you and they are based, such as CAN-SPAM in the US and GDPR in the EU and UK.

The whole sequence, in short

Your best clips go on a page, the page goes in a short sequence, and the sequence goes out from your own inbox. Then you answer the replies.
